Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is not only a city of history, but also a romantic place
to visit. The city is full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.
The Gravensteen or 'Castle of the Count' is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent (known as Gent in Flemish).
Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the 'noses'.
Antwerp International Airport is 52 km away, while Brussels Airport is 55 km. Just book your hotel, guest house, apartment, or B&B through Booking.com and discover everything this stunning city has to offer.
A historic university city. Preserves its strong Flemish identity.
Has a vibrant city centre and has a 'gothic feel' to it - but, not as strong as Bruges or to Brussels.
Once the main train station has completed its rebuild, it will enhance the city as a more inviting place.
We had dinner in the student sector and found it expensive. It's easy to get around Ghent by public transport. Trams need to be upgraded with easier payment systems and electronic information boards. Compared to Netherlands, Belgium's Tourist Information-points or Centres are not that easily accessible.
I would avoid staying near the main train station during its current building works due to noise and dust. The latter if you're allergic to dust.

Augmented Reality at St Bavo's Caythedral was exceptional.
Augmented Reality at St Bavo's Caythedral was exceptional. Almost everything in the city is walkable from the centre. Cars, trams, bikes and pedestrians share streets which means being careful when you walk. Altogether this was a visit to remember which will bring a smile to my face. Heartily recommended. With over 5000 students at the university the positive atmosphere was almost tangible. And the quality of life looked very good with excellent restaurants at reasonable prices and chic shops with good design on offer.

A beautiful, lively city with many easily accessible sights, concentrated in the centre. Easy communications by train or bus to/from other towns and good public transport within the city. Plenty of shops, restaurants, cafés, and a large pedestrian area. One can easily spend a few hours in one of the many museums on a rainy day.

It can get a bit full of walking tours and people in general - don't go at peak tourist times! Away from the centre there are lovely little bars and places to look at. It's crammed with beautiful art nouveau buildings. It prides itself on its artistic and musical connections - lots of students, and you could hear music practice going on in many places. There are local breweries with many delicious beers.

Two nights would've been better...lots to see.
Two nights would've been better...lots to see. Our favorite Belgium chocolates and waffles of our entire trip were found in Ghent (Gant). We choose to not do the museum or castle tours, but enjoyed the boat tour and walking through the streets, shopping, and people watching. On the weekend, the streets were pretty packed, but more families than we found in Brussels. Do the St. Babo's virtual tour if you visit--so much more information. We didn't a car. Try to get a seat near the canal for an afternoon snack/drink--lovely place to sit and relax.

The centre of Ghent was pretty.
The centre of Ghent was pretty. The level of service and friendliness was generally good, but unfortunately this was not the case on the boat or at the castle. Having visited most of the major cities in Belgium this would be rated 4th after Veurne, (small but pretty and very welcoming), Dinant, (amazing Citadel), Bruges, (charming) and Antwerp (Our favourite, lovely old town, music museum, designer shopping and easy to access...we used the park and ride)
Fran and Maarten were wonderful hosts! As soon as we walked in, we felt welcomed by Fran. The room was spacious and clean, bathrooms were modern and excellent condition. Maarten is an amazing chef and went above and beyond for us while we were there. Would recommend trying out their restaurant while you are there. We will go back to their bed and breakfast if we ever go back to ghent belgium.
ALL WENT WELL Nice hotel and room. Pleasant staff. Good breakfast. FREE CAR PARKIING. Room was clean and well
taken care of. All services and equipment worked good. Small restaurant with good food. Bus transportation immediately
outside the property. If you rather the TRAM is about 15-20 minutes walk near by. Both are good and get you to Ghent
Central station.
Perfect location for exploring Ghent. It's a stonethrow from the cathedral and you'll love the morning view of the picturesque square from the hotel's breakfast area. The staff were helpful, the internet was great and the rooms werevery clean and comfortable. I'd recommend staying here although it is on a pricey side for a 3* hotel.
A stylish hotel that affords guests many in-house amenities (access to a spa, bijoux but ideal gym, gorgeous sauna and relaxation space, pool, as well as a choice of eateries). More than anything, though, is the location minutes from the heart of Ghent and the sanctuary-like rooms. We enjoyed returning here after exploring the city
Excellent location. Well run hotel. Good efficient and friendly staff. Decent sized, clean, attractive and well designed room which was nice to be in.
Breakfast good, wide range of choices.
Slightly quirky hotel based on a Comic Art theme ( Big in Belgium) but all the better for having character rather than being soulless.
It's a new hotel and you can tell. Rooms are so spacious and relaxing, I needed a good night's sleep after about 20+ km walked in Ghent and I was not disappointed. Everything clean, staff at the reception was kind and friendly, I will be coming back to Den Briel whenever I will find myself in Ghent again.
Great location, super sized room with sitting area and comfy bed. Lovely eclectic range of furniture and ornaments which made this hotel special. The breakfast was very good with eggs cooked to order - fantastic scrambled eggs, as well as fresh croissants and bread.
The hotel is very accessible with the car and it has a parking place on site. The reception and the cafe areas are nice and cozy. Although the rooms are super small, they're very clean. It's very close from the city center (15 min walk). The staff is friendly.
Great option for a good value stay in Ghent. Walkable from the station but quite far, I recommend the bus from station which stops right outside. Easy walk from hotel to historic centre of Ghent. Wi-fi good, bar that does pizza downstairs.
I stayed two nights in enchanting Ghent and will come back. Maybe to dance Hotel. Hotel location is great, tram stop nearby, center of town, many eateries walking distance. Staff are friendly and rooms are clean . They have elevator/lift.
Superb location within a 5 min walk to the heart of Ghent. In a great neighbourhood with loads of trendy bars and cafes. An extremely well-designed building that feels just like home, but with all the touches of a boutique hotel.
Great hotel to visit Ghent, excellent location in the center close to everything, super friendly staff, very nice bar and restaurant with a cool vibe, parking at the hotel is a real plus given the parking situation in Ghent
Very comfortable hotel close to the center of Ghent. Besides the comfortable bed and automatic light in the bathroom, I liked the table and chairs. Very cosy spot to have the coffee or tea they provided.
The host was very nice to bring our luggages upstairs and downstairs during checking & - out. He suggested the traditional Belgium food and order the restaurant for us. Thanks a lot for his kindness.
A hotel located in an authentic former villa, with nice rooms, an excellent breakfast, free parking space and close to public transport throughout the city of Ghent.
Location is good for Ghent, short walk into the city centre, nearby to 2 tram stops, 15minutes tram from the train station so easy to visit other Belgium cities
Amazing Historic Hotel in the Heart of Ghent! The hotel was exceptional in every way! The staff was wonderful and we truly loved the cocktail bar as well!
